back to board list
Jerry Greenfield, along with his childhood friend Ben Cohen, founded Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc. in Burlington, Vermont in 1978. Greenfield made all the ice cream for the shop, which quickly became well known for its rich, unusual flavors and community approach to business. Today, Greenfield's official title at the company is co-founder. He serves as president of the Ben & Jerry's Foundation as well. Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield were named the U.S. Small Business Persons of the Year in 1988 by President Reagan. In addition, they are winners of the 1993 James Beard Humanitarians of the Year award and were recognized by the Peace Museum as the 1997 Community Peacemakers of the Year. Greenfield has co-authored two books with Cohen, in the more recent of which, Double Dip, Lead with Your Values and Make Money Too (1997, Simon & Schuster, New York), they share their experiences with integrating progressive social values into the day-to-day activities of a business.
