Nathaly Agosto Filión
Program Officer, U.S., Institute for Sustainable Communities
What I’m working on now:
Developing, designing and delivering Sustainable Communities Leadership Academies with the U.S./Climate and Environment Program team at the Institute for Sustainable Communities.
Why I initially started working on climate issues:
The urgency of the climate crisis was clear and the opportunity to be a part of the transition towards a more sustainable way of life called to me.
The climate work I’m most proud of:
Engaging climate, energy, and sustainability practitioners from around the country to share promising practices in a field where consensus around best practices is still emerging.
The biggest obstacle I face in my work:
Creating opportunities for public sector employees to learn from and share “Tales from the Trenches” with their peers, in a time of decreasing staff capacity and increasing fiscal constraint.
The reason why I joined Climate Access:
To remain engaged and informed about the issues facing sustainability practitioners across the country.
Something you probably don’t know about me:
I’m a classically trained mezzo-soprano with a deep love for baroque Italian opera and German lieder.
My favorite quotes:
I know they’re both a bit cliché, but I live by these two quotes!
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has” – Margaret Mead
“Be the change you wish to see in the world” – Mahatma Gandhi
