Through the grant, ISC will work with the joint HUD-DOT-EPA Partnership for Sustainable Communities (PSC), which coordinates federal housing, transportation, water, and other infrastructure investments to make neighborhoods more prosperous, allow people to live closer to jobs, save households time and money, and reduce pollution.

The Institute for Sustainable Communities (Montpelier, VT) will create a National Sustainability Learning Network. This work will strengthen the capacity grantee communities to create more housing choices, make transportation more efficient and reliable, make more efficient investments in water and wastewater infrastructure, and build vibrant, healthy and economically prosperous neighborhoods for American families.

As communities struggle to rebound from recession, green, sustainable, or low-carbon development is seen as a pathway to economic recovery, resilience, and prosperity. This Climate Leadership Academy workshop will help local and regional officials work effectively with key private and nonprofit partners and state government counterparts to establish and implement sustainable economic development strategies while simultaneously reducing climate pollution and improving environmental quality.
